Barack Obama has tried to separate himself from the Tony Rezko corruption scandal throughout his campaign. Rezko, a longtime associate of Obama, was convicted in June of on corruption charges involving a political fund-raising operation for Illinois Governor Rudy Blagojevich.

Obama’s selection of Joe Biden for VP, will not help to separate Obama from Rezko. One of Rezko’s associates, Joseph Cari, Jr., supported Biden at least since his aborted 1988 Presidential campaign. Cari also admitted his guilt in the political-fundraising scandal. Biden has not found it easy to cut-off his connection to Cari.

“All I know is Joe Cari is a friend, and he’s an honorable guy, but I don’t know anything beyond that,” Biden said when charges first arose against Cari.
