Elliot Spitzer Gives First Interview: “These Days I Prefer Hanging Out With My Kids”

Elliot Spitzer agreed to his first interview since his resignation earlier this year as New York Governor. What he did not say said more about him than what he did say. Spitzer, as you may recall, was identified as “Client 9″ in a prostitution bust involving the Emperor’s Club. Spitzer, once known as the “Sheriff of Wall Street,” agreed to answer six written questions posed to him by Time Out New York.

None of the questions directly dealt with his resignation and scandal. Even with that, Spitzer declined to comment on two questions. One asked how he would respond to readers who felt he should not be included in the issue that asked questions of 40 prominent New Yorkers. He also refused to answer a question about how it felt to be out of government for the first time in years.

The softball questions offered little information. When asked to complete the sentence “New York is …”, Spitzer wrote, “The place where no dream is too big to come true.” That is an interesting answer since Spitzer’s political dreams went down the sewer there.

Another question asked whom among the Top 40 would he want to have a drink with. Spitzer’s answer: “These days I prefer hanging out with my kids – having dinner and encouraging them to do their homework and put aside Facebook for awhile.”

Another interesting answer since not doing that earlier cost him his political future. Then again, maybe it was the only answer available, since the hookers from the Emperor’s Club did not make the Top 40.
