John McCain’s seven houses got him in trouble. Now his 13 cars are doing the same. The problem is McCain once said he only buys American. However, he owns a Honda sedan and a Volkswagen convertible. Aw, what the heck, he probably forgot. He will let his staffers get back to you on that one.

To a Detroit radio station, McCain said, “I’ve bought American literally all my life and I’m proud.”

Hondas and Volkswagens are good cars. Nevertheless, a little straight talking on cars would be appreciated. Then again, maybe he is being truthful. The only car registered to his name is a Cadillac. The others are in the name of Cindy McCain.

A McCain representative said the Cadillac is what McCain was referring. That might be, but it gets a little confusing when he selectively uses and then dismisses her money. McCain has used her private jet throughout the campaign because there are no limits on personal donations a candidate can put in a campaign. In that case, it is his plane too. In the case of the cars, they are hers.

However, the McCains do have seven houses. That means seven garages. It does take a few cars to fill those up.

By the way, the Obamas own one car - a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid.
