Many polls in North Carolina show Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole trailing her Democratic rival Kay Hagan. She has now pulled her ace out of her deck of cards, an ace for a Bible leaning state like North Carolina anyway.

Dole is tying Hagan to a Massachusetts fundraiser held by a non-believer.

The Godless Americans Political Action Committee (GAMPAC) is looking for politicians to support. This is not a joke. GAMPAC really does exist. Its list of candidates is a bit slim, especially since California Congressman Pete Stark is the only admitted atheist in Congress.

It is a good bet that Kay Hagan would not associate herself with GAMPAC under any circumstance. By the way, Hagan is an elder at First Presbyterian Church.

“How dare she attack my Christian faith,” Hagan said. “Is Elizabeth Dole that desperate to keep this Senate seat?”

The Dole campaign claims that Hagan knew that the host of the fundraiser was on the board of GAMPAC. They claim Hagan even tried to slip in through a side door to attend the fundraiser.

Hagan is seeking a cease and desist order on the 30-second commercial Dole has put out. The Dole campaign insists they will not pull the ad.

Here is the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s longer version of the ad.
