In a Foolocracy.com poll asking readers what would be the greatest influence on this year’s election, over 75% chose racism over ageism or sexism. Ageism and sexism hardly registered with less 6% picking ageism and less than 2% picking sexism.
The question let polltakers enter their own choice. Although the poll was trying to weigh the influence of various “isms”, the economy is paramount in everyone’s mind. Nt surprisingly, the economy was chosen by 9%. Another 8% selected apathy, intolerance or just did not know.
The most surprising result is to find sexism barely receiving any support. In a year when Hillary Clinton nearly grabbed the Democratic nomination and Sarah Palin is the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate, it would seem sexism would get more consideration.
On the other hand, even though few want to talk about race in this Presidential election, the truth is that race is on most people’s minds. Seventy-five percent is a hard number to ignore.
