Kennedy Refuses To Disclose Financial Interests Until She Becomes A Senator

Caroline Kennedy, who is publicly seeking appointment to Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat, refuses to release essential financial information until she is appointed Senator.

According to the New York Times:

Ms. Kennedy declined on Monday to reply to those and other questions posed by The New York Times about any potential ethical, legal and financial entanglements. Through a spokesman, she said she would not disclose that kind of information unless and until she becomes a senator.

If appointed Senator, Kennedy would have to comply with the Senate’s financial disclosure laws requiring the information to be released by May 15.

Kennedy has generally not made herself available to the media as her name is considered for appointment. Since consideration of her appointment became public, she has only taken 11 questions from the media, granted no interviews and will only respond to her views on issues with a written statement.

Many political observers question her lack of openness. If this was an election for the seat, she would have to be much more forthcoming about her finances and issue positions.
