Barack Obama Bowling Like a Little GirlHe hasn’t even assumed office, and he has already caved in to a special interest.

In this case, Barack Obama has decided not to rip out the White House bowling lane and replace it with a basketball court.

After his election, Obama announced just such a plan. Obama may have been trying to erase bad memories from the abysmal bowling episode last spring when he bowled a 37. Yes, bowled a 37. Obama made this attempt while trying to woo voters in the Pennsylvania primary. That might explain why Hillary Clinton trounced him in that election.

Obama has now caved to the bowling special interests, although he did get a few significant concessions.

The White House bowling lane, first installed by Harry Truman, then upgraded by Richard Nixon, is heading for a major makeover. At News-Journal.com:

In an incredible display of non-partisan collaboration that would make any politician blush, the leading organizations within the bowling industry are joining forces by offering to bring the White House lane into the digital era. The enhanced ultra-modern lane would include a completely new-technology surface, cutting-edge bowling balls, a top-of-the-line high-definition scoring system and light display, digital stereo sound system, club seating, Bowlopolis kids digital graphics and modern electronic bumpers (perfect to help both Dad and daughters adopt proper bowling technique).

“Our goal is to provide the president-elect and his family with a modern-day bowling experience. We’re focused on completely refurbishing the White House lane \- no pin will be left behind,” said BPAA President Jim Sturm. “In a sign of solidarity that should give inspiration to politicians on both sides of the aisle, the leading organizations within our industry have formed a ‘coalition task force’ to help enact a different kind of positive change on Capitol Hill.”

Okay, so it wasn’t a complete cave in to bowling interests. That sounds like one fun bowling lane!

For his part, Obama has promised something to the bowlers of America. He plans to brush up on his game. In a Barbara Walters interview, Obama said, “Practice makes perfect.”

From a 37 to perfect? No one has those kinds of expectations for the Obama administration. And no one is expecting it from Obama’s bowling skills.
