On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court Justices will take up Barack Obama’s citizenship as requested by Justice Clarence Thomas. The suit was filed by Leo Donofrio against New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells.
Few legal experts say it has any chance of succeeding. The Supreme Court routinely reviews cases in private before deciding on the merit of public court hearing.
According to the Chicago Tribune, this is one of many similar cases brought in courts across the country.
- Alan Keyes has a suit to halt the certification of California electors pledged to Obama.
- A Kentucky man wants a federal judge to review Obama’s birth certificate.
- Two other cases by Andy Martin and an Ohio man have already been dismissed.
- Five other suits were dismissed by a man currently suing “Peoples Association of Human, Animals Conceived God/s and Religions, John McCain (and) USA Govt.”
- Phillip Berg’s attempt to enjoin the entire Democratic National Committee from nominating Obama was dismissed by a federal judge for lack of standing.
As the controversy developed over the election campaign, Hawaiian officials initially stated that privacy laws forbid them from confirming or denying the authenticity of birth certificates. Eventually, Hawaii’s Health Director, who is head of vital statistics, retrieved the birth certificate and reviewed it, publicly vouching for its authenticity.
