The Durham, North Carolina City Council has approved beehives for the backyards of city residences but the fate of chickens remains undecided.
After approving beekeeping inside the city, the city council spent half-an-hour musing over the fate of chickens raising. A group called the Durham Hens has pressured the council to allow the poultry inside the city limits.
The council will decide in February the fate of allowing chicken permits. First, council members want a health department official to discuss bird flu concerns.
