The world of politics is going to miss Rod Blagojevich in a few weeks. If anyone besides the Illinois Governor thinks he isn’t going to be impeached, that person is yet to be found.

But, seriously, you have wonder about the mental state of the fellow.

He missed a deadline for calling witnesses, so now he won’t attend his trial.

His lawyers are jumping ship as fast as they can. They know a lost fight. Besides, when they try to give Blago some advice, he ignores it. He’s been urged not to talk to the media by his lead attorney Ed Genson. So much for that lawyer’s influence. Genson realizes that too.

“I have practiced law for 44 years. I never require a client to do what I say, but I do require clients to listen to what I say. I intend to withdraw as counsel in this case,” Genson said.

Blagojevich has likened his trial to an Old West hanging. One guy tells another, “Let’s hang him.” Then the other says, “No, let’s give him a fair trial, then hang him.”

Other Blagojevich tidbits include:

“If they can do this to a governor, they can do this to any citizen in Illinois.”

Of course, no one has seen the impeachment of a private citizen before. It’s not even possible. Impeachment is a political process not a criminal one.

“Dec. 9 to my family, to us, to me, is what Pearl Harbor Day was to the United States.”

Yep, he compared himself to Pearl Harbor. At least he has the sinking ship analogy right.

Blagojevich is also claiming his impeachment is about taxes. He stated that if he is impeached, taxes will go up in six months.

He’s probably just upset because he won’t get a kickback from a tax hike.

Then there’s my favorite. When asked if he wanted to apologize for anything on the wiretaps, he said, “I apologize for the profanity…If I knew they were listening, I wouldn’t have used those words.”

Yes, he is going to be missed.
