The Obamas are moving to Washington but they will not be able to stay at the traditional house for incoming Presidents, the Blair House, until January 15. Instead, they will stay at the Hay Adams Hotel.
Last month, the Bush administration informed the Obamas that the Blair House, opposite the White House, was booked for farewell “receptions and gatherings.”
The Obamas are moving to Washington much earlier than most incoming Presidents because they want their daughters to become adjusted to their new school immediately after the winter break.
The Blair House is the official guesthouse for the President since 1942.
