Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin is going green. At least that is what she proposes for Alaska. Palin wants Alaska to get 50% of its energy from renewables.
That would be quite an accomplishment for oil-rich Alaska.
As a Vice-Presidential candidate, Palin called for “Drill, baby, drill” at ANWR. Now, with this proposal she is greener than California’s Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who targets 33% or Barack Obama who has a national goal of 25%.
It is an impressive goal. Some are skeptical, claiming her plan is short on specifics. Yet Palin’s proposal does include feasible wind farms and a landfill gas recovery plan in its first 77 projects.
Alaska already produces 24% of its energy from renewables. Most of that is hydropower in the Panhandle. If it is possible to hit the 50% target with renewables by 2025, then Palin deserves considerable credit.
