“We Are The Senator”

rolandburrisSenate designee Roland Burris feels that the Senate seat Governor Rod Blagojevich has appointed him to is his or his and whomever else he is referring.

As Burris put it to a Chicago Sun-Times reporter: “We are the Senator.”

Burris is one of those politicians who oddly refer to himself in the plural. There are times it fits, as when a politician mentions his political campaign. In this case, it just hangs by itself. Unless the “we” is Burris and Blagojevich.

Here is some more “we” and maybe a hint that his appearance on the Senate floor Tuesday will find some reconciliation before hand.

“There is no confrontation here, there is no antagonism here,” Burris said in a phone interview from Chicago. “And so we are proceeding very diplomatically, and we are proceeding with all concern about not creating any type of circus that will entertain the media.”

Circus to entertain the media?

This thing has already done that. There is no need to fold up the tent now.

One of the rumored compromises is that Burris might be given some office space and staff. He would be allowed on the Senate floor, but not to vote.

That might be wishful thinking from the Democratic leadership. Burris wants to be a full Senator, and he will probably go to the courts to get it.

We will see.

One Response to “We Are The Senator”

  1. I agree that the media cirus elephant was already out of the tent before Mr. Burris went to Washington but he knows that the Senate has no legal standing to keep him from being seated.
