Tennessee Lawmaker Wants Obama To Show His Birth Certificate

Just in case you thought that the inauguration of Barack Obama as President was the end of the legal challenges that he is not a U.S. citizen, here comes another.

Dr. Orly Taitz is seeking politicians to sign on as plaintiffs to her court action.

Amazingly, she found one in Tennessee. State Representative Eric Swafford is now a plaintiff.

After perusing Swafford’s website, I was struck by one of his positions on the issues.

Restore the ability of teachers to discipline students and allow them to teach the pledge of allegiance and the Ten Commandments.

Allow teachers to teach the pledge of allegiance? Is this supposed to mean that Tennessee bans it? I couldn’t find anything to support such an idea, especially in Tennessee of all places.

I did find this link from the Tennessee State Board of Education setting guidelines for the recital of the Pledge in public schools. A law passed the legislature in 2002 requiring the guidelines. Yet this only makes Swafford’s statement sound odder.

One other thing about his website — on the right column is a “Latest News and Events listin.” It has “3/27/06 Check back soon for updates!” The column is blank. That might be a hint at what the real problem is with Swafford.
