The UK’s Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, claims she was only seeking reimbursement for an internet connection and not her television bill when she submitted a list of expenses on her parliamentary claim form.
The item that immediately attracted public attention was the two porn films on the television bill. Smith said there was “no excuse” for the error and blamed it on her husband. Smith said her husband watched the films when she was not present.
The matter is particularly embarrassing to Smith because as Home Secretary, she is responsible for regulating the adult entertainment industry.
I suppose she could always say she was just researching it. But that’s right; it was her husband who watched the films, not her.
Her husband, who works as her assistant, is responsible for gathering the reimbursable expenses. This is not the first tme that he has embarrassed her. Last year, he wrote a letter to a newspaper backing her policies, but he neglected to mention that he was married to her and worked for her.
