After visiting the Selma Performing Arts Center in Alabama, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright said that Barack Obama was “like any other President.”
Wright was a speaker at a meeting commemorating the Selma-to-Montgomery voting rights march. A picture of Wright and Obama was placed prominently at the event.
“Barack’s name ain’t Jesus. Barack ain’t gonna improve your child’s reading score. There are things we’ve got to do on our own,” Wright said.
Some expressed dismay that Wright was invited because of the controversies over his comments on race. However, the event was well attended with 700 people.
Still, Wright could not avoid placing a few minor criticisms at Obama.
“He’s a politician and he’s got to do what politicians do,” said Wright.
