  • Bob Quick, Britain’s head of counterterrorism, resigned after a paper labeled secret and detailing an anti-terrorism raid was clearly visible to journalists and photographers. The raid was forced to occur ahead of schedule because of the security breach.
  •  A gaunt-looking Kim Jong-Il was unanimously renominated for a third term. It is Kim’s first public appearance since the stroke he is believed to have had in August.
  • A bitter debate in the Virginia legislature led to the rejection of $125 million federal stimulus funds for the unemployed.
  • Japan wants a UN resolution condemning North Korea’s missile launch to mention the 10 companies responsible for developing North Korea’s missile capacity.
  • New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said that his 2004 Hawaii trip, paid for by a private company, did not violate any law.
  • Fiji’s President fired all the country’s judges and annulled the constitution after his military government was declared illegal.
  • Here are a couple of interesting stories about Levi Johnston. He wants the world to know that his family is not white trash. He also wants to become actively involved in his sons life, but fears the Palins are going to be a hindrance to that. I don’t know how Sarah Palin can present herself as pro-family if this is true.
  • Venezuela President Hugo Chavez said that China now leads the world. “No one can be ignorant that the centre of gravity of the world has moved to Beijing.”
  • Amnesty International said that the Austrian police and legal system is riddled with racism.
  • Former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens has filed a statement of candidacy for 2014. He would be 93 then. A spokesman said it was only meant to accept campaign donations that came in after the November election.
  • North Korea said it will take “strong steps” if the UN acts against it for its missile test.
  • An Indian comedian has started a pro-bribery party.
  • Falkland Islanders are continuing to reject Argentine overtures.
  • Iran announced that its nuclear plans are moving ahead.
  • Mexico’s top law enforcement officer said that the U.S. is lagging on its commitment to aid Mexico in its fight with drug lords.
  • The British government accidentally overpaid the Irish health service hundreds of millions of Euros and would like to get a refund.
