Berlusconi’s 18-Year-Old Model Friend Wants To Become A Candidate For Parliament

silvio_berlusconiThe 18-year-old model that is responsible for ending Silvio Berlusconi’s marriage now wants to be a candidate for the Italian Parliament.

Noemi Letizia was asked if she wanted to be a candidate in regional elections.

“No. I’d prefer to stand for the lower house of parliament. Papi Silvio will fix it,” said Letizia.

Berlusconi’s wife of 19 years announced she was divorcing him after Berlusconi attended Letizia’s 18th birthday party. Berlusconi presented the model with a gold necklace and diamond-studded pendant at that time.

Berlusconi denied that he is having an affair with the model. She also denies that she is his daughter.

Letizia stated that when Berlusconi has free time in Milan or Rome, he calls her for them to meet, talks to her, they sing together, and he tells her dirty jokes.

Of course, nothing improper is going on. Doesn’t every 72-year-old Prime Minister spend his free time with an 18-year-old model, give her jewelry and tell her dirty jokes?

Letizia is not the only reason for Berlusconi’s upcoming divorce. He has had attractive women hanging onto him throughout his political career. Just a few weeks ago, he selected a ballerina, actress, singer and beauty queen to run for as the Italian representatives to the European Parliament. Veronia Lario, Berlusconi’s wife, called the choices “shameless rubbish.”

One would think that the Italian people would get tired of these shenanigans from a 72-year-old billionaire. Yet, Berlusconi enjoys a 66% approval rating.

It is as if the more he lives the life of a Prime Minister playboy, the more popular he becomes. Berlusconi has turned Italian politics into a soft porn circus, and Italians enjoy it.

As the distinction between politician and celebrity blurs throughout the world, is Italy an aberration or a coming trend? Policy is less important than style. However, style is nothing more than outrageous behavior in Berlusconi’s case.

Putting an 18-year-old model in parliament? There is no justification for it. Italian politics has become all about showgirls and models, glamour and glitter, while the polls reveal a rocket ride to public acceptance for the embarassing administration of Silvio Berlusconi.
