Swedish City Legalizes Topless Swimming At Public Pools

toplessMalmo, Sweden’s third largest city has legalized topless bathing at public swimming pools. After a feminist group attended public swimming pools topless, the city council was asked to pass a law requiring women to cover up. However, the city council decided that since it does not require special swimwear for men, it could not do that for women. The new law only requires swimmers to wear a swimsuit and has no regulation that it cover the breasts.

Women are allowed to go topless on Sweden’s beaches, but until now, they had to cover up at public swimming pools.

Advocates of the change said that it was a “question of equality” and that “it’s not unusual for men to have large breasts that resemble women’s breasts.”
