- The National Black Republican Association wants President Obama to apologize for the Democratic Party’s 150 years of racism. They did not ask the Republican Party to apologize.
- North Korea continues to fire short-range missiles off its coast.
- Two of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s guards have been outed as former Stasi members. Stasi was the East German secret police.
- Iran will put British embassy officials on trial for inciting the post-election protests.
- Saudi Arabia will build a $3 billion, 6,000-mile fence along its border.
- Maine Democrats and Republicans are squabbling over Republican gubernatorial candidate Les Otten’s “O.” Democrats say Otten stole his stylized “O” from the Obama campaign. Otten denies it, reminding the Democrats that some thought the Obama “O” bore a strong resemblance to the Pepsi logo.
- Italians may finally be getting fed up with Silvio Berlusconi. On a trip to comfort Viareggio, a community victimized by a terrible liquid gas explosion, Berlusconi was booed and hissed. Shouts came from the crowd, “whoremonger” and “pedophile.”
- With the G8 meeting coming up and Silvio Berlusconi’s wife set to divorce him, Berlusconi is without a First Lady to attend official functions. No need to worry, Berlusconi has tapped his Minister of Equal Opportunities, Mara Carfagna, as his First Lady designate. Carfagna is a former topless model turned politician. No one should be surprised.
- Iraqi Prime Minister Nori al-Maliki plans to put the security agreement and withdrawal of the United Stated to a vote of the people.
- In China, longer jail terms and other punishments have not prevented Communist Party officials from using public funds for gambling.
- Hugo Chavez’s new crackdown may involve shutting down opposition radio stations.
