The North Koreans are making more than missiles and nukes. Yep, now they have a beer promoted “as the new look of Pyongyang.”
They bought a British brewery in 2002, dismantled it and shipped it back to North Korea, thus, creating the Taedonggang Beer Factory. Apparently, the North Koreans can make nuclear weapons, but they can’t make a brewery.
From time to time, the beer has been available in South Korea. Amazingly, it is considered of good quality.
North Korea’s first television beer commercial touts the beer as a way to ease stress. You know that stress you get when North Korean agriculture fails again, and you are on the edge of starvation. Perhaps, it is the stress from not responding enthusiastically enough when the Great Leader’s name is called, and you fear being dragged into one of the massive prison camps for reeducation.
It looks like advertising is not for just the capitalists, anymore. Of course, with the 1950’s style this commercial has, I don’t think Madison Avenue has much to worry about.
