I’m glad I don’t live in Toronto. You probably are too.
Toronto has turned its parks into temporary dumpsites because of a strike by city workers. Toronto has designated 181 sites, many of them parks, as temporary areas to stash the trash.
The neighborhoods aren’t amused.
Now that the piles of trash are growing high, flies are coming as well as other insects. The city plans to spray a heavy dose of pesticides to control the maggots and other vermin.
Again, the neighbors aren’t happy about that either.
Striking garbage workers are not happy that the picket lines may be crossed with pesticide sprayers either.
Hopefully, the stench and flies will give both sides a reason to negotiate earnestly. In the meantime, if you are planning a summer trip to Toronto…how about Montreal or British Columbia instead? Otherwise, bring a mask.
