Spectators at Australia’s Bathurst 1000, considered by many to be that nation’s premiere auto racing event, will now face drinking restrictions for the three-day, 1000 kilometer race.
In the past, violence fueled by drinking has marred the race.
This year, spectators will be limited to 24 beers per day and four liter’s of wine.
In case you misunderstood that, let me repeat it. In an attempt to limit drinking-inspired violence, authorities will limit the spectators to 24 beers a day.
That means the poor Aussies will only be able to consume one beer an hour for three days.
Race-goers are not happy that limits have been slapped on their consumption.
Then there are the vendors. How are they going to make money with these restrictions?
“Police respect people’s rights to enjoy the race weekend, but will promptly act when the law is broken,” Assistant Commissioner Alan Clarke said.
I can’t figure out what is more ludicrous. Is it the police slapping a 24-beer-per-day limit on race-goers or the spectators complaining that their right to alcohol poisoning is being violated?
