Joey Lombard is running for mayor of Minneapolis.
Minnesota candidates have the choice of selecting a political party or principle of their choosing next to their name. The twenty-two-year-old Lombard selected “Is Awesome.”
So the ballot heading reads “Joey Lombard Is Awesome.”
Lombard said that he put that title together because his friends call him “awesome.”
That is except for his girlfriend who said that he was making a mockery of the political system. She has also dumped him, which I presume Lombard does not think is awesome.
Lombard is one of 11 candidates running for mayor.
Just what does Lombard plan on doing if elected?
Lombard’s political agenda is a little sparse, but he is advocating “smaller trash cans to promote bigger recycling.” There is not a further clarification of exactly what that means. Lombard also has a 10-year plan to convert street lights from halogen to LED. He also states that since he is single, then he would not get caught in any uncomfortable situations in Argentina.
Lombard freely admits that he does not have any experience, but stressed the upside on that means he is not corrupt.
Perhaps we should not cut Lombard short on the experience side though.
Lombard is proud to point out that he has lots of experience running cities – Sim City cities, that is. Sim city is an urban simulation on city management, with police, roads, crime and the occasional tornado.
Who knows? That can’t make Lombard any worse than some of the others who have been elected mayor in this country.
Lombard does promise that if elected he will “improve the awesomeness of the city.”
I think he would do better than most
we need more people like him to run for office.
If he used the internet and social media properly he might be able to pull it off.
