That is what an article in the UK’s Telegraph claims. It is not as if the Telegraph’s article came out of nowhere. Rumors have floated for sometime that Amadinejad may have a Jewish background. He had previously admitted that his father changed the family name when they moved to Tehran in the 1950’s. Amadinejad has never revealed what the old family name was, only that was it was changed for religious and economic reasons.
The Telegraph now claims evidence that name was Sabourjian – a Jewish name meaning cloth weaver.
Out of all of Amadinejad’s rants, it is his denial of the Holocaust and extreme hatred of everything Jewish that he is most well known. Now it appears it is all about self-hatred.
Amadinejad now joins another Jew-hater who was probably Jewish. That would be Adolf Hitler who probably had a paternal grandmother who was Jewish. Although some doubt it, Hitler was concerned enough that he covered up his ancestry to prevent any consideration of the possibility.
Amadinejad’s hatred for Israel is obviously overcompensation for his own ancestry. It is an attempt to prove his loyalty to Islam in a radical Shia society. I doubt if the ayatollahs are going to throw him under the bus now, they have too much invested in him, especially after this last summer’s fraudulent elections.
Still, it has to make many of those hardliners a little uneasy that their main spokesman in the battle against Israel comes from a family with ancient Jewish roots.
It is only appropriate that Amadinejad should hate himself. Most of the rest of the world already feels that way.
