Health care reform is a political issue. Whether you agree or disagree with it, it is an honorable position if honorably taken. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx opposes the health care bill winding its way through Congress, but she appears to have lost her perspective between political advocacy and political violence. In reference to the health care reform bill, this is what Foxx spoke on the House floor.
“I believe we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country,” Foxx said, earning herself “Fool of the Week” honors.
The absurdity of declaring that terrorists, who want to destroy American society and the Constitution, are less a threat than a bill reforming health care is a bit hard to fathom.
If Foxx really believes this, then she needs to present a bill redirecting the resources of Homeland Security.
Foxx is concerned that health care reform will bring about a tax increase. That is right. She fears a tax increase more than al-Qaeda slipping a nuclear weapon into the United States, massacring hundreds or thousands of Americans or destroying iconic American landmarks and institutions.
While the rest of us are concerned about what terrorists will do to America, Foxx is concerned what health care reform will do to her wallet.
Dishonorable Mention: Oakland Mayor and former Congressman Ron Dellums deserved “Fool of the Week” honors for running up a $239,000 tax bill with the IRS. Much of that debt was acquired as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
