- The Patriot Act is set to expire on December 31, 2009. The Senate and the House must both reconcile their new versions by then.
- A Chinese city has opened a gay bar in an attempt to stem the rise of HIV infections.
- In the UK, parents are being checked out to make sure they are not pedophiles before they can accompany their children to Christmas caroling events.
- Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009 is proceeding. In this bill a person convicted of gay sex can get life in prison. If that person has HIV, the death penalty may be applied. If someone defends the rights of gays and lesbians, the penalty is up to seven years in prison. If someone knows of a homosexual incident and fails to report it with 48 hours to the police, a three-year prison term may be imposed.
- On the anniversary of his 2006 execution, Saddam Hussein is back. He now has his own satellite TV channel in Baghdad.
- A French fashion magazine has placed Michelle Obama as more “chic” than France’s First Lady Carla Bruni.
