North Korea has qualified for its first World Cup appearance since 1966.
Odds makers place the North Korean team at 350-1 long shots to win the World Cup. The chances of the average North Korean seeing a televised match are even longer than that.
Kim Jong Il has decreed that state-run television not run live television matches, but only screened and heavily edited takes from victories.
After all, Kim would not want his people to realize that the North Koreans are not undefeatable.
Just to make sure that the North Korean people do not think that there are consumer goods in the world beyond North Korea’s borders, censors will also blur out all commercial advertisements of game broadcasts.
Opposition fans will also be edited out because everyone knows that no one would want to root against the people’s paradise in Pyongyang.
It looks like the North Korean Photoshop technicians are going to be quite busy. Then again, the odds of the North Koreans winning are so low that there probably will not be much to edit.
