OBA MAO T-shirt Banned In China

As Barack Obama engages on his Asian tour, the hot seller in China is the “OBA MAO” T-shirt. Obama’s image is transferred onto a T-shirt with a Mao Zedong cap and jacket. In Chinese, Mao’s phrase “Serve the People” is written underneath.

The T-shirt has sold well in China where Mao is still popular. In China, it is viewed as a compliment to Obama.

However, Americans who do not share Obama’s politics are also buying the T-shirts up.

The Chinese government must have gotten wind of that because representatives from the Industry and Commerce Bureau came to shops selling the T-shirt and told them they must remove the item from sale or be shut down.

Sellers are hoping that once Obama is gone that the ban will be lifted and the T-shirt will be back on the market.
