In an effort to combat the spread of HIV, Thailand’s Public Health Ministry wants condom users to wear the right size.
“Larger size condoms can slip off or deaden the pleasure during sex, while smaller ones will cause discomfort to wearers. These factors dissuade people from using condoms – which encourages the spread of HIV/Aids,” said Dr. Somyos Kittimankhong of the Department of Disease Control’s anti-Aids division.
Thai health officials have introduced a penis measuring device so a man can get the right fit.
The disposable tape measures the penis width on a scale between 49 to 56 millimeters, which is the standard penis width of Thai men.
There was no explanation how the Public Health Ministry came to determine the “Thai penis size standard,” but I must assume it was from a previous survey of erect men.
The measuring device clearly states, “Please measure during erection.”
HIV has been on the rise in Thailand. Gay men and sex workers appear to be the most vulnerable, and they are the target of the “Condom for All” campaign. Authorities believe that this may allow men to more openly discuss their penis size. My hunch is that the small condoms are still going to be slow sellers though.
