Those women in the hijabs are not Muslims either. They are Catholics.
Iran generously provided $1.2 million in funding for a hospital in El Alto, but there was one catch. The women who worked at the new hospital were required to wear hijabs.
Bolivian President Evo Morales decided that $1.2 million was an acceptable buy out of his country’s cultural and religious traditions so he accepted the deal.
Lourdes Millares, of the Democratic and Social Power Party, called the Iranian hijab demand “an assault on the dignity of women.”
Bolivians throughout the country have jumped on Morales’ decision to require the hijabs as an outrage, but it looks like the hijabs are going to stay.
