- Maricopa County in Arizona is unlike any other place in the United States. County Prosecutor Andrew Thomas stood at a news conference with Sheriff Joe Arpaio to announce that the presiding criminal court judge, Gary Donahue was being charged with three felony counts. Thomas did not have specific evidence to charge Donahue besides stating that the county’s Superior Court Judges and Board of Supervisors were conspiring to prevent his investigation into the construction of a building.
- Alabama’s anti-gambling Governor Bob Riley is informing Florida Governor Charlie Crist that he does not need to send the Florida oranges to Alabama as a payout on their Alabama-Florida football game bet. Riley has been receiving a lot of criticism as a hypocrite for engaging in a bet with Governor Crist while trying to close electronic bingo halls.
- Congress voted to allow Washington, D.C., to use city funds to pay for abortions for low income women and allow medical marijuana.
The Saudi religious channel Atwan TV allows women to present a program, if they are completely clothed head to toe.
- Greenpeace T-shirts have been banned from the Canadian Parliament after the environmental organization held an illegal demonstration near there.
- Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson is proposing war bonds to pay for the Afghan war.
- Three women are challenging Ireland’s ban on abortions by appealing to the European Court of Human Rights.
- Arizona is considering privatizing its death row and high-security inmates. It would be the first state to allow privatization of its entire prison structure.
- The head of the British intelligence agency MI6 said that it was Russia’s fault that the British invaded Iraq.
