Missouri School Board Okays Gay Penguins

tango_embedded_prodGay penguins are welcome in North Kansas City schools.

So is the determination of the North Kansas City School Board that voted 3-2 to allow the presence of And Tango Makes Three. The children’s book is based on the true story of Roy and Silo, two male penguins with gay tendencies, which adopted a chick and raised it at the New York Central Park Zoo.

A parent objected to the availability of the book because he did not feel the pro-gay image was age-appropriate or followed the school district’s guidelines on human sexuality. Opponents wanted to restrict the book from general circulation in the schools’ libraries.

The book had been approved by two previous committees before being submitted to the school board.

Next time, the opponents should write their own book for inclusion in the school library. After seven inseparable years, Silo ditched Roy for a younger female penguin named Scrappy. The opponents probably feel that follows the district’s guidelines on human sexuality.
