If you know German, you won’t have any problem with this ad. If you don’t know German, it doesn’t matter. You will get it.

The Austrian army has had some difficulty recruiting young men to be soldiers. The solution? Make it seem sexy. Drive a tank and the young women will go crazy seeking a joy ride.

At least that is what the ad implies.

“The video is trashy and an embarrassment,” said one critic.

Spiegel Online explains what happens.

“A soldier climbs out of the tank’s hatch, rubs his hand suggestively along the barrel of the cannon, jumps down in front of the girls and asks them if they would like to go for a ‘joy ride’ in his vehicle, instead. The girls screech in excitement. ‘Then come to the Austrian army. Then you can drive a tank,’ the soldier says before speeding away. The shrieking girls run after the departing tank. And cut.”

Just were did the Austrians get this idea? From the Ukrainians.  You can see it on Spiegel Online. I doubt if any other armies are going to pick it up.
