Leo Berman
If Texas State Rep. Leo Berman has his way, then Texas will be the second state, after Arizona, to require Presidential candidates to present their birth certificates.
Berman introduced House Bill 295 because “This bill is necessary because we have a president whom the American people don’t know whether he was born in Kenya or some other place.”
Obviously, the birthers are not going to go away quietly. As 2012 rolls around, they will probably be out in force.
Although Republicans control enough seats in the House to pass the measure, the Democrats in the State Senate could thwart the bill.
The Democrats and Republicans who do not believe in this fringe thinking should let it pass. It will have no effect on the Presidential race. The Obama campaign will simply present the certificate of live birth from the Hawaii Department of Health that they presented over two years ago.
Birthers like Berman will probably find another way to be displeased.
Back in April, Berman declared that “Barack Obama is God’s punishment on us.”
For Berman, it is not about the constitutional qualifications of the Presidency. He just does not like Obama and will believe anything to prevent his reelection.
