Sections of Constitution Skipped During Congressional Reading

While this is not really a quote, it should have been. Two pages stuck together in the three-ring binder when a member of the House of Representatives read part of the Constitution.  The missing text included Article 4 Section 4 and part of Article 5.

Article 4 Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

Article 5: The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution.

It is a bit ironic that a Republican-inspired reading of the Constitution should miss mentioning “a Republican Form of Government.”

Later Virginia Rep. Bob Goodlatte returned to read the missing articles.
