Tourists Mistaken for Mercenaries in Tunisia Chaos

Tunisia relies on tourism for foreign currency, but it looks a lot less inviting now.

Nine tourists from Sweden, who were legally in the country hunting boars, were pulled from their cars after a rifle was found. The Swedes were beaten and kicked by the police.

Police were not interested in the hunting licenses the men possessed. Rumors now float through Muslim media that these men were armed foreign mercenaries.

This is what happens when former President Ben Ali, more of a dictator, resigns after a generation in power. Pent-up aggression is easily directed towards anyone perceived as an enemy, even if it is tourists and the aggressors are the police.

Needless to say, there probably will not be many wild boar hunters coming to Tunisia for awhile.
