Okay, it is still speculation, but the imagery is too good to pass up.

Beneath Muammar Gaddafi’s compound in Tripoli is a vast tunnel network. It has long been rumored to exist but never proven. The locals suspected its existence because of the prodigious amount of dirt excavated.

As the rebels closed in on the compound, it is believed that Gaddafi escaped through the tunnels in a golf cart. A smashed golf cart was found inside the tunnels after the rebels took control of the compound.

Realistically, a golf cart is probably an adept way to travel about the tunnels. However, for the “King of Kings,” as Gaddafi like to portray himself, it is an inglorious ending to a brutal and chaotic 42-year reign. Eventually, he might still be found in a spider hole like Saddam Hussein. In the meantime, we have the image of Gaddafi racing in a golf cart before crashing it against a tunnel wall.

It never ends well for tyrants. History gets the last laugh.
