Rick Perry’s New Ad on Faith Brings Interesting Numbers on YouTube

Rick Perry came out with a new video a couple of days ago. It is an appeal to faith-driven voters, and I’m sure it does its job reaching them.

Perry gives the standard religious argument that he is in favor of prayer in the public schools and against gays in the military. There is nothing newsy about that. The news is the reaction of YouTube viewers to the video.

In two days, Perry is fast approaching a million views. He was at 747,019 this morning. That is quite a viral takeoff, but that still isn’t what is really attention getting. The likes and dislikes registered by the viewers is the real news. Perry has 3,299 Likes but 145,419 Dislikes.

If a campaign video turns up these kinds of numbers, is it really doing what was intended? Is this ad a turnoff for voters and why? Is it Rick Perry that people are giving the thumbs down? Is it his message mixing religion and politics? Is it both?

Besides the ideological disagreement, the video does not seem that offensive to generate negative feedback of 50 to 1.

  1. What do you mean by “Besides the ideological disagreement, the video does not seem that offensive to generate negative feedback of 50 to 1.”.

This advertisement is so horrendous that it should make him ineligible to run and serve in ANY political seat in the USA. He pretty much says, outright, he wants to tear down the most important things which make America great. We are a fully secular country and religion should be pretty much banished from our politics.

If I could give this 1 million ‘dislikes’ at a time, I would and everyone else in America who firmly believes in our country should as well.

Derek is absolutely right. Not only is Perry spreading an anti-gay message, but he’s bashing the military and questioning the right of non-Christians to practice their own religions (or lack thereof). Apparently, the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights is meaningless to this man.

    And he’s running for president?

  3. Bob Pybus says:

Maybe what this says is that the people who would support Rick Perry’s views on religion are probably not computer literate or perhaps even literate period.

I must have been dumbed down by reading so many asinine quotes from Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum that Perry’s ad sounds rather plain. I don’t agree with anything he says, but comparing it to what the rest of the GOP field has to offer, it doesn’t sound as bad as some things I’ve heard. I agree entirely with what you say about religion and politics. Perhaps the caffeine from the coffee hadn’t kicked in this morning to clarify my thoughts when I wrote this. Apparently this video has offended a lot of people. I’m glad that there are a lot of Americans left to still uphold our values of a pluralistic society. Thanks for your input.
