Santorum: Unemployment Dropping because of Optimism We will Elect a Republican President

Rick Santorum seems to be joking a bit with this comment, but he is half-serious, at least.

“I think there might just be some optimism that maybe Republicans are going to take the White House. Maybe that’s spurring people to start taking some risks. I’ll take that as a reason.”

When there’s good economic news, there must be a reason for it other than Barack Obama who is destroying the economy. That is the line Santorum is taking because it is against the unwritten code of politicians to say anything favorable about an opponent.

The problem is that the economy is so bad from institutional and foreign problems that any president is going to have very little that he can do to create meaningful change. The best we can hope for is a president who screws things up the least.
