Whoever was in charge of organizing the national anthems for the 10th Arab Shooting Championship in Kuwait must be looking for a new job. In what can only be described as a highly embarrassing error, the fictional anthem for Kazakhstan presented in the movie “Borat” was played while Mariya Dmitriyenko stood at the awards ceremony as the gold winner of her event.

Dmitriyenko had an uneasy look on her face as she certainly knew that was not her country’s anthem. Her knowledge of English is unknown so it is uncertain if she understood the profane lyrics of the song. Either way, she took it with dignity and smiled at the end.

As might be expected, the Republic of Kazakhstan sports ministry sent a letter of protest to Kuwait’s organizers of the event. Fortunately, the medal ceremony was replayed with the correct anthem so that Dmitriyenko could enjoy her moment properly.
