Bill Johnson, a former Birmingham city councilman and gubernatorial candidate, made news last December when it was reported that he donated his sperm to at least 10 couples in New Zealand. Johnson did this without the knowledge of his wife.

Johnson ran for governor in 2010 as a conservative Christian opposed to same-sex marriage. This is relevant because Johnson donated sperm to at least one lesbian couple.

Johnson’s behavior is beyond being hypocritical to his family values. It is bizarre, with total disregard for his wife and principles. She spent five months forgiving him and trying to keep her marriage together. Nevertheless, after Easter, Johnson announced that he was moving to New Zealand so that he can donate more sperm to lesbian couples and be present when the births of his biological children happens.

The response of Johnson’s wife, Kathy, as reported by Al.com:

Kathy Johnson said that, before her husband left, “He told me he is not going to stop.”

“I said, ‘You’re walking away from a good marriage and a strong family that is willing to come to forgiveness’.”

“I will not chase him to the other side of the world so he can be a part-time father to children he created with other women.”

Some of the women are not likely to be happy because he misinformed them about some of his personal details, and they refuse to talk to him now.

Johnson is so enamored by his ability to father children with women for whom he doesn’t have any responsibility that he is planning for a lot more. His focus has now shifted to providing sperm to lesbian couples. Opposing same-sex marriage, but actively taking a role in making families for those couples, would jar most normal people into thinking that there is a disconnect between one’s morality and actions. In Johnson’s case, the thrill of being a father to multiple children and no responsibility must exhilarate him. He is clearly on one big ego trip.
