Tom Smith, a candidate for Senate in Pennsylvania, made a reference earlier in the week that “having a baby out of wedlock” is the same as a pregnancy through rape. That put him on the radar of questionable candidates. While making a statement as he did could be a one-time gaffe, it is unlikely because it is so outrageous.

Here are some other comments from Smith that are tainted with sexism. Without the previous out-of-wedlock/rape comment, these might not be noteworthy. They could be dismissed as taken out of context. That is a bit harder to do now. From shoes to beauty salons, Smith seems to think women are only concerned about personal appearance.
