Illinois Congressman Walsh: It’s Never Medically Necessary to have an Abortion to Save the Life of a Mother

Anyone ever notice that it’s always men who say the stupidest and most inaccurate things about abortion? Add Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh to that list.

In a debate with his opponent Tammy Duckworth, the issue of abortion arose. That is where Walsh took an extreme position on abortion, denying that one is ever necessary to save the life of a mother.

“I’m pro-life without exception. Understand, though, when we talk about exception, rape and incest are exceptions. They are violent, horrific acts,” Walsh said.

It sounds as if Walsh might be saying there is no exception but rape and incest are ones. Unfortunately, despite Walsh’s awareness that these are “violent, horrific” acts, he still opposes abortion in those cases.

Even more alarming is that Walsh is under the impression that medical science has progressed to the point where every woman’s life can be saved in a pregnancy gone wrong. When asked if that means he opposes abortion when it will save the life of a mother, Walsh made it clear that is the case.

“With modern technology and science, you can’t find one instance. There is no such exception as life of the mother, and as far as health of the mother, same thing.”

By the way, Walsh’s background is not in the medical field. He is an actor and a social worker. That helps dispel the notion that Walsh has medical training and a secret cure for saving the life of pregnant women whose lives are at risk.

Pro-life for Walsh means excluding the mother from living. This is as extreme as one can go.
