It’s great that D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry is giving away turkeys again this year. That’s $40,000 worth of fowl going to needy folks. Despite his good deed, Barry remains one of the most corrupt politicians in America. From being convicted of crack possession, traffic violations, stalking and failing to pay his taxes, Barry has moved onto to racial comments that spoil the good deed he does every Thanksgiving with his turkey giveaway.

In the past, Barry has refused to divulge who paid for the turkeys so as to protect the donors. The donors can’t be blamed. Even for a good deed, who wants to be associated with Barry? This time Barry added a racial tinge to the event when he said the only people concerned about where the money came from were “liberal white folk.”

It was just last year that Barry became involved in another racial controversy with Asians.

“We’ve got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses, those dirty shops. They ought to go, I’ll just say that right now, you know. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”

Turkeys or not, when Barry is out of office, it won’t happen soon enough.
