In case anyone thought that former Pennsylvania Senator and presidential contender Rick Santorum had disappeared into the sunset, he didn’t. Santorum is eyeing another race for the 2016 presidential race. That has brought him on a perpetual speaking tour where he rants against the demise of American morality and traditions. Santorum’s latest tirade focused on the schools.

“The cultural indicators that I talked about earlier that are sort of going the wrong way, we’re, you know, in ever-increasing numbers, less and less people here in America, you know, and believe in God, and believe in Jesus Christ, and believe in truth and right and wrong.

“It’s understandable, I mean, if you certainly, if you look at popular culture and what comes out of Hollywood, if you go to our schools and particularly our colleges and universities, they are indoctrinating in a sea of relativism and a sea of antagonism toward Christianity — religion in general, but Christianity in particular. And so it’s understandable that that happens, but we, you’re right. Abortion is a symptom, marriage is a symptom, I mean pornography is, all of these are symptoms to the fundamental issue that we’ve gotten away from the truth and the Truth-Giver.”

At least Santorum didn’t say school shootings were God’s punishment to all the anti-Christian teaching going on in the schools. Nevertheless, his sweeping portrayal that schools and Hollywood are responsible for abortion, same-sex marriage and pornography is the kind of simplistic thinking that only creates problems.

If Santorum thinks that schools are anti-Christian, just imagine at how he thinks they should be changed to become pro-Christian or even religion neutral. Here is a politician that is looking for schools to become Christian madrassas. So much for any thought that the 2016 debate might be intelligent.
