Anibal Acevedo Vila and twelve associates were indicted on 19 counts of campaign fundraising violations. As usual in these situations, Acevedo Vila claims he is innocent, and that the charges are politically motivated. The Federal Bureau of Investigation states that Acevedo Vila received illegal and unreported donations to pay off campaign debts. If the Governor does not resign, the opposition party intends to begin impeachment proceedings.
