Although George Bush and other democratically elected leaders were not among the poll choices, Foolocracy.com readers wrote in George Bush as the world’s worst dictator. Bush narrowly edged out North Korea’s Kim Jong-il 30% to 29%.

Second place was a near three-way tie between Hu-Jintao of China, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and another surprising write-in choice, Dick Cheney. These three totaled 6% of the vote. The choice of Cheney is especially surprising since technically he is not the leader of a country, although many consider him the true power of the Bush White House.

Bringing up the rear were Muammar Gadaffi of Libya, Than Shwe of Burma and Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia. Surprisingly, with all the negative attention in Sudan, Sudan’s leader Omar Bashir trailed slightly behind and just ahead of the last write-in candidate. In another surprise, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi garnered just enough votes to put her on list, albeit in last place.
